About SelfHostMap
SelfHostMap helps small and medium businesses (roughly 10–200 people) decide which open-source AI apps they can realistically run on their own servers, and what that will take. We cover 30 apps today and add more every week.
Most "AI tool" directories list features. We focus on what an operator needs before deploying: whether the license allows business use, how much server you need, what that costs per month, how to install it, and what tends to go wrong.
Methodology
Every fact has a source
License terms, hardware requirements, deploy commands and gotchas come from each project's own repository, license file or official documentation, and each one links to its source. When a project does not publish a figure, such as minimum RAM, we leave the field empty instead of guessing. Each app page shows the date its facts were last checked by hand.
GitHub activity refreshes automatically
Stars, forks, latest release and last commit date are fetched from GitHub by a script. An app is marked stale when its default branch has had no commit for 180 days, and archived when GitHub marks the repository archived. Last refresh: Oct 22, 2026.
How we estimate hosting cost
We take the project's published minimum and recommended RAM and vCPU and pick the cheapest matching plan from one reference provider: Hetzner Cloud Regular Performance (shared AMD vCPU). Prices come from their public pricing page (last read 2026-10-22, EUR, excluding VAT). "From" monthly price cap shown by Hetzner, excluding VAT. Prices vary by location. Covers the server only; it excludes LLM API usage, backups, extra storage, GPUs and your time. Apps that need a GPU, or that run as desktop apps, are labelled as such and are not priced.
We use one provider so every estimate is comparable, not because we recommend it. We have no affiliate relationship with Hetzner.
License summaries are not legal advice
We sort licenses into broad groups (permissive, open core, GPL, AGPL, custom, source-available) and summarise the conditions that most often matter to a business. Read the license itself, and ask a lawyer if you plan to resell or embed the software.
Independence
No project paid to be listed, and listings are not ranked by payment. If we add sponsorships or affiliate links in the future, they will be clearly labelled.
